Oh don't even go there with that. lol Of course, cable and satellite companies are feeling the pain as more and more people are saying "no more" and cutting the cord.

Newly released cell phones. Does anything become obsolete faster? Why not wait a year or two and have a great phone, just not the latest.

People are impatient, and if they have discretionary income, they will buy things impulsively. But don't tell that to my Apple stock.

They got greedy. For about ten years, I was waiting for a "cheaper alternative" or at least do a a la carte package where the consumer picks the channel they want and pays for them. I "had to" upgrade to a higher package to only see one more cable channel that the cheaper package didn't offer. All of that effort to watch my favorite teams lose. Basically, I was paying 15 bucks + fees to view one more channel. Then Netflix and Hulu became popular, so has torrents. Don't get me started on cable companies, i have no mercy for them.

Yes! Definitely the biggest ripoff on the planet. It's great that I'm having almost a third of my paycheck taken away from me so it can be abused by other people. And then talks of having even more of that! Absurd! Enough is enough people. If you can't make do with what you have, you're going to have to cut back somewhere. But they won't listen to that. It's more, more, more abuse. Spend like a drunken sailor what you don't have. I'm not going to tell someone what to do with their own life, but 1) don't come crying to me for help when you find yourself up s*** creek without a paddle 2) and don't drag me down with you! 'cause I don't have those habits!!!! Sheesh. What a nutcase world.

Health care is a ripoff too. It used to be affordable (crazy, that the program is called "affordable" health care. That's the biggest joke I've heard in a long time). But now, you can't not only afford it, but get a fine for not being able to do so as well. What a great way to get screwed over! Congrats, majority, for messing up things even more!

The problem has degrees of course, and is most noticeable when one dines out at dinner time and/or at a more upscale establishment.

There are calculable factors that are individual to each person in a cost/benefit analysis of course. One has to purchase food, plan and prepare the meal themselves when eating in, but no time getting dressed appropriately and driving to and from a dining establishment either. I for one enjoy cooking and planning, considering them processes that are both creative and educational/skill building in nature and I pick up ingredients in my normal week's shopping run anyway, but others my feel otherwise.

An example I posted on another thread here recently, and focused from a general list, is the price of a glass of wine dining out with my ability to purchase a magnum (1.5 liter bottle) of equal quality wine for the same price
lol, I don't should, the value of dining out imo is not having to do all of that. I',m not a big cooker so for me, it's a pain in the patooie.

IMO the biggest rip off? CABLE TV. 400 channels of nothing at 200 bucks a month

Cable! Recently considered switching to Verizon Fios until I painstakingly went through every detail and found out I would only be saving about ten bucks a month and would lose both my email address and phone number. In two years the price would be more than what I currently have with Spectrum. Either way we are paying 200 dollars a month. Service is decent, we use the dvr, I need to see the golf and news channels. But dang, 200 bucks a month.

Real estate agents in general, but especially the listing agents, who charge 3% of your home's value for telling you to put your junk away, holding a couple of open houses (unless they send somebody else to do it), and reviewing a standard contract. Altogether less than two day's worth of work in most cases.
