Some products with light damage are ok to buy, but don't be fooled - from my experience and observation - the most frequent buyers are small mom&pop restaurant owners. They buy whatever, regardless how badly stuff is damaged or expired.
Once opened and processed, they hope you won't know the difference.

I even refuse shipped pet food since both of our furries walked away from several cans of their favorite - dented.

I can just see the OP denting up cans for the discount in the supermarket aisle. Lets see, that's 90%, 80%, 60%, 50%!!!!

Then manager comes and "Sir/maam, I'll have to ask you to pay for those and leave". (at 50%)

i buy a lot of discounted food but won't buy dented cans b/c i heard once when cans get dented they rust, so i am always afraid of eating food that has some rust.

I don't buy rusted cans. I had a few not dented cans rust after they spent too much time on a metal shelf.
