couple of things are NOT good much past the exp. date. Jams and jellies get too solid. Evaporated milk suffers greatly in texture. There may be others.

Penny wise pound foolish. Undented cans are good for a long time. Forever might be an exaggeration. Dented cans or other past date type food items? Yeah, not really worth it. Remember that feeling the last time you had really bad food poisoning and was firing out both ends at the same time? I'd say not worth the risk, but to each their own.

Never got it from canned food - got frozen Hormel chili dogs years ago that did that. Totally fresh new product.
