What is the frugal way of doing this? Obviously, to sell everything for top dollar... But I lack the patience for the hassle of online sales (Craig's List, Facebook Marketplace) and so end up just donating the smaller items and hanging on endlessly -- meaning to sell, but never quite getting around to it -- the more valuable things.
What's your preferred method; have you used auction houses or a pawn broker? What was your experience?

For what type of item, specifically? I'd look up community yard/rummage sale events. If it's a lot of stuff (like you're trying to downsize into a new place) an estate sale company can have a whole house emptied of it's contents and hand you cash proceeds over the course of a weekend.
Not a lot of stuff; just random items (a bike, a kayak, a piece or two of antique furniture). Not enough for an estate sale; ideal for listing online, but I just don't have the stomach for it!
Give up the notion that you must be paid for the item. Donate it. Give it away. If it is in useable condition or has value there's probably a non-profit that will come pick it up. Take a tax deduction. But then if you actually are a cheapskate, that probably comes with built in resistance to giving anything away. If you must get money for the item you're just going to need to generate some "stomach" for it.

In my area we have 2 FB groups just for free stuff. Plus there is Freecycle (I think it's still around). Also "curb alerts" on CL. Not worth it to deal with haggling, no-shows, etc to get a few bucks for something.
I give away the small stuff, but I make myself list the bigger items online. It's not really that much of a hassle, other than having to answer lots of text messages. My husband is happier making money off items than he is when I give them away.

You have 4 choices.
1. keep it
2. sell it (ND, CL, FB, Ebay, local paper)
3. give it away (friends, relatives, put the items in your will)
4. throw it away
It sounds like selling is your desire.
Selling takes time and effort as far as listings, photos, receiving offers, etc.
