No. I assume they have coaches. They definitely wouldn't want me to coach a math team.

One of the reasons I decided to consolidate all these threads into one "info" thread was that I wanted to share some news and didn't see a thread that was right for it.

The Marshall University Marching Band went to London for the New Years Day Parade. This was televised world wide, and was shown in the United States for the first time this year. The Marching Thunder was the lead band in the parade. They played Sons Of Marshall for their parade music, did Mountain Music at the review stand, and played Fight On as the marched away.

The PBS program about the US bands that were going had a very nice story about Marshall and the marching band.

There are more stories on Marshall's web site.

That’s awesome. We are friends with one of Marshall’s feature twirlers. She had a really good time in London compared to the bowl game in Tampa (where it rained the entire trip)

They were twirling fire batons in London. I haven't seen anybody twirl fire batons since they put artificial turf on Laidley Field in Charleston.

If memory serves me right, the MU twirlers were using fire during the pregame before the Louisiana Tech football game.

Yes they use fire, and it’s quite impressive to watch. In fact, they are teaching my 8 year old daughter how to twirl a fire baton. As a dad, it makes me a little nervous, but I have to trust that they know what they are doing.

Marshall has appointed two alumni to lead the Brad Smith Business Incubator. James Rorrer and Casey Robinson are excellent choice for this role.

Both of these guys are active in leadership at Marshall. If you look around over at the Foundation Hall, you'd be likely to see either of them. I think it's good for everyone involved when qualified alumni can fill positions such as these.

Huntington’s Kitchen unanimously accepted into prestigious teaching kitchen collaborative

Huntington’s Kitchen, the outreach community food center of Cabell Huntington Hospital (CHH) and home of Marshall University’s Department of Dietetics, was unanimously accepted into the prestigious Teaching Kitchen Collaborative (TKC).

"You must be invited to be a part of this group and then you must go through an application process to be accepted," said Andrew Vaughan, M.D., M.B.A., a cardiologist at Marshall Health at CHH and an assistant professor in the Department of Cardiology at the Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine. "This is a great honor that places Huntington’s Kitchen in a network with prestigious teaching kitchens around the world."

------------

If I'm not mistaken, this is housed in the kitchen that was built for the Food Revolution when Jamie Oliver filmed his television program in Huntington. I'd say they really took advantage of an opportunity with this one.

Here's the link to the entire article: https://www.marshall.edu/ucomm/2020/...collaborative/
