Earlier today I had gotten dropped off at the Goodwill thrift shop to browse around and bought something from them then walked down the street to the Disabled American Veterans Thrift Store for my job interview. Yes I know 2 different thrift shops but I love thrift shops either way.
So when I walk into the interview and take my seat the boss who's an old lady notices my Goodwill bag and instantly dislikes this and tells me that their company the Disabled American Veterans Thrift Stores does not like the Goodwill companies and IF I DO WORK FOR THEM I CANNOT EVER GO TO the Goodwill thrift shops anymore and it's in their store policy and contracts too.
Can you believe this? Do you think this is true?
The job interview itself went over alright but again the boss of this location was an old lady and she did seem like a b-tch so we will see what happens.
So who cares? I could have needed to go to the store before the interview
big deal.
If the interviewer said that it was excessive............but you need to get some common sense about image and perception. If you walked into my office with a goodwill bag I would think homeless and or bag lady. Sorry. You show up to interview looking to conduct business. Business is done with a briefcase or an appropriate woman's bag/purse, not a goodwill bag.
Oh and you really did double down on ignorance coming in with a competitor's bag. I am sure you resent my post because you are not objective like me, but you really need to meditate on the responses here and think maybe the way I look and conduct my job search is the reason I have no job?
It could be a conflict of interest policy they force employees to sign.
The only place I've seen this though is in retail stores where they make you sign an agreement that says you won't work for anybody in the same (retail) industry as long as you're working there.

I won't pile on more, but I do agree with the others.
