And because of all this is the reason I will se more and more crime stories because many can't get a job and have no choice but to turn to crime
Exactly, I saw a guy leave CVS in frustration(not anger but frustrated) after he couldn't get an answer on the status of his online application. If someone gets desperate enough after not being able to get hired for jobs like this that now act like you're applying to Harvard they may very well turn to crime.
Really??? You'd be ok with someone who's high representing your company to the public as a cashier? Not to mention handling cash, credit cards, merchandise....
Disagree. I know how to use a computer and have applied for housekeeping jobs as well as dish washing and laundry attendant jobs because I am beyond being picky and hold the belief that if you really want a job you will be open to doing whatever is available.
If you know how to use a computer why were you applying for housekeeping and dish washing jobs since you could look into customer service or clerical jobs.

Who said anything about coming to work high? If someone came in high OR drunk they should be terminated.
I don't think that low level jobs like Target(and the poster who mentioned they worked at Home Depot also went through this to collect carts) need a phone interview, a 2nd in person interview, a background check, and a drug test.

Well, the point of drug testing is to weed out applicants who have a history of drug use. It's called being proactive.
If you can look left and right, you can pretty much round up carts in a parking lot.
There is no reason to do a full background check for jobs like this. With cameras everywhere, if someone is stealing from the stockroom they will get caught.
JMO, unless someone is applying for a job that involves driving a bus, company vehicle, truck, etc or they're going to be operating heavy/dangerous machinery, I think drug testing is a bit much.
It certainly is to stock shelves and run a cash register.
I wonder how much money Target wastes on drug testing and background checks in regards to their turnover for these low level jobs. I guess it is passed on to the consumer.
Target also does credit checks, so you will also need possibly an 800 credit score to round up carts.

Do you realize how big some of the stores are? They typically have have one security personnel watching multiple cameras at once (and sometimes the cameras only look at the store floor, not the stockroom). Someone shoplifting would have a very good chance of successfully stealing.
