We briefly talked about the state of the local's casinos buffet on another thread.

For those that have lived in Las Vegas for more than ten years, I am sure that they have seen a steady decline in the quality of the buffets that is being served for the locals.

A local's casino would be anything that's not on Las Vegas Blvd from the Stratosphere to Mandalay Bay and Fremont St area.

We got here in 2004, and the best was Arizona Charlies on Boulder, when they had all you can eat Prime Rib. Now we go to Station casino Feast now and then. I can walk into any of the buffets we go to (Fiesta, Sam's Town, Sunset Station) and choose something I like, whether it's a fruit plate, salad, main dish, side dish, desert, whathaveyou. You don't have to fill your plate. You don't have to go back and back. You don't have to stuff yourself. You don't have to get your monies worth. Do any of these buffets serve something that's terrible? I wouldn't know, because I choose wisely. We also go to South Point's veterans day buffet every year, breakfast. I make it a point for the blueberries.

I have seen a steady decline in the quality of the buffets since I moved here in 2000. I understand that it is very hard for the casinos to make money from them but at least they get you through the door which is the whole idea.

I visit mostly the Santa Fe, Aliante, Cannery and sometimes Texas Station buffets since they are closer to me but have visited all them and most of the times I have a hard time finding something good to fill my plate with. Badly cooked vegetables, cheap to make dishes like spaghetti, mac and cheese, mediocre pizzas, hot dogs etc. and extra salty foods just don't cut it for me. Sure, you can have a salad, a salty soup, pizza and some desert but you expect more when you go to the buffet with dozens of choices but even those choices just mentioned can be mediocre at best.

Those dishes that were specialty made with great recipes are almost gone.

The ones that still put on a good effort but are not quite what they were before are the M Resort, Red Rock, Green Valley, South Point and the Orleans probably in that order . The rest and the majority fall short IMO.

To ask the question intelligently, you have to say which one.

I think GVR is decent, not spectacular by any means but good value for money especially with the unlimited beer and wine

My favorite in town is the Orleans. They seem to have a larger selection than the Station Casinos, with the possible exceptions of Red Rock and GVR.

No. I think you need to. Maybe places of the same chain (thinking Station) are similar, but that's about it.

We go to the Orleans the most, although not a lot. Mostly for breakfast, and it's fine, but has gotten a little pricey lately. It's okay for dinner, but I'm kind of picky with what I eat and most buffets don't have a lot of things I like. Red Rock used to be my favorite, but I haven't been there in a while.

The biggest problem I have with dinner buffets is eating too many different things. A little of this and a little of that, and before I know it I have a grade A stomach ache.
