Is anyone reading, in my original post, about South Point Casino/Hotel where there are year-around equestrian events and viewing the National Finals Rodeo there in December? I'm a former rodeo horse owner and we follow rodeo very, very closely. South Point is very well known for their equestrian events, that is, for those that have an interest in horses and rodeo.

When we were in Wyoming, we went by Buffalo and it is very small. IOW, to isolated and small for us. We've been told, on this forum, that Gillette isn't the best place in Wyoming to live, so we bypassed the highway going there when we were going to Sheridan and after we left. When going to Cody, Wyoming, that was to see Yellowstone NP and go to Buffalo Bill Cody Museum, not to research Cody for moving to.

We can handle the heat by staying inside when it's that hot. We will both be retired. That means, no driving back and forth to work.

Actually, wife and I don't hear about anyone complaining about moving to any part of Las Vegas, although the northern part is where much of the crime happens (by stats we've read). We definitely wouldn't move there!

So, bottom line here is a hotel/casino called South Point and the big/major Equestrian Center there.

If that's the driving force behind the move, I hope you can find a nice place to rent and it all works out for you here.

Crime is worse in the northeast area of Vegas around Nellis Air Force Base. You will be on the opposite side of town (southwest vs northeast).

I would prefer to be near Carson City or Reno like Dayton to as far as Fernley or even Fallon. But that's me. I don't know if there are alot of lakes for boating or fishing in those areas.

OK, it sounds like you want to be as close as possible to the Equestrian Center and the South Point Casino.

Here are just a handful of the many, many apartment complexes that are in very close proximity to the Equestrian Center and South Point.

Maybe it would be helpful to use Google maps to look up the addresses and do an online "tour" the surrounding area to see if it's what you have in mind? This will also give you an idea of what prices are like in that general area.

You can then broaden your search outwards from there if necessary. Apartments.com would be a useful tool for doing so.

By the way, a couple of these complexes are actually in a part of Henderson that is also quite close to the Equestrian Center. As I said, Henderson was a very good suggestion given by a previous poster above.

Also, another data point: Sun City Anthem is a 12 minute drive from the South Point Casino and Equestrian Center. And, as I said earlier, there are rentals available there too for about what you'll pay for almost all of the complexes listed below. A lot of people are giving you really good suggestions; might help to investigate before dismissing them out of hand.

Crime is all over the place these days. The areas to avoid the most in North Las Vegas, is downtown NLV near Civic Center and Northeast NLV. Not the North Valley. Totally different area. In the 19 years we have lived here in the North Valley, aka Aliante, we experienced maybe one incident. And that was in 2008. Go where you want to go, just don't lump all of NLV as high crime when it isn't. You can't always believe everything you read.

From what I recall about casino's with Equestrian centers, the Orleans also had a few of the events as well. We were there one time when it was going on, but did not stay for it. Loved the horses though. Good luck wherever you both land. Hope you like it here in this big wide valley. And the summers only last for 5 month. Hardly ever gets to 120+. (maybe East side and Henderson) I think we had a few days this last summer near 120, but did not make it there. Its fine inside with a/c, but your electric bills will be very high. Nevada power keeps raising the rates. Too bad our paychecks never go up, but everything else does!

Just adding one more to my list of rentals that are close to South Point Casino Equestrian Center.

This one is a 2 bed/2 bath house in Sun City Anthem:

https://www.realtor.com/realestatean...2_M24718-47936

Also, here's some info about everything that Sun City Anthem offers to residents, including concerts, movies, clubs, rec centers, etc. Looks really nice! https://www.sca-hoa.org/page/42904~908523/amenities

Again, take the addresses of the complexes and rentals, plug them into Google maps to see how close they are to South Point. "Walk" around the areas and see which ones appeal to you. If necessary then broaden your search. Realtor.com and Apartments.com should give you lots of ideas.

As always, have fun and good luck!

Well, it's not a "go" yet for Vegas, only research so far. But, with South Point and (now I remember) Orleans equestrian events PLUS the National Finals Rodeo in December..........might be a great choice. BTW, in case many of you don't know this, this year's National Finals Rodeo total purse is $14 million dollars!

When talking about electricity for summer heat, we had numerous times here when the temp was 95 and our A/C going. And then, during our winters, like this past April at 7AM when the temp was -12, the heat was going full blast.

Basically, what we are trying to do, and it definitely isn't easy, combine powerboating with Western events. And, we don't want to be hauling our boat miles and miles to a lake.

Wanted to make sure about a Walmart Supercenter.........no problem!

Wanted to make sure about a VA Hospital.......no problem!

Done some checking on Gun/Rife Ranges, plenty, but we have our own firearms and never/ever shoot anything military style or automatic. Doesn't bother us of those that do, but we simply don't. The two rifles we have are small caliber (.22), a handgun (.22) and another handgun (9mm). It looks rather expensive to targe shoot in Vegas.

We were members of an Outdoor Gun & Rifle Club (10 years) and paid $133 a year for the both of us. Where we live currently, it's an indoor range, for small caliber arms and it's $45 for the both of us for an hour. We have yet to go there and shoot, but will be. That "small caliber" includes our 9mm. We asked about it and they said "fine".

When we do go to a Range, we don't shoot much, but for us, enough.

Was also wondering about a Senior Center. We know that Las Vegas is a "working" city, not a retirement city (for to say).

The Las Vegas Valley is definitely a retirement area. We have no state income tax, low property tax, and few overcast days. Compared to California, houses are very cheap, electricity is very cheap and very reliable, natural gas is cheap, and water is about the same.
