My apologies for my faulty memory. You couldn't drive to Cheyenne and back in a day because of your truck being too old. Not you being too old. I guess I got confused because you said above in this thread that you no longer can (or like to) drive any length of distance.

Link where you explained why you couldn't drive 45 minutes to Cheyenne and back in one day:

Good luck. I hope you can fill the gas tank and go for a drive this weekend. Maybe even up the freeway to Cheyanne, ;-)

<<<Unfortunately, our vehicle is a 2005, with 175,000 miles on it. The furthest we have drove it now is to DIA, this past December. With the engine having that many miles on it, we don't even trust driving it up to Estes Park or into RMNP for the Elk "rut". >>

Well, Laughlin is 90 miles from Vegas. I guess that rules out boating on the River, unless you decide to rent a boat when you go.

Which really isn't a bad idea at all. A larger sized boat may not be ideal on the River due to the flucuating water levels each day. Pontoon boats are very popular with boaters on the River for that reason. One advantage you'll have being retired is that you can go during the week, so you'll avoid at least SOME (not all) of the crazy LA boaters who head over to the River on weekends. It can be quite a mob scene some times.

But you still have Lake Mead, only 40 minutes (32 miles) away. As long as the water holds out there. Last time I was in Vegas, Lake Mead was looking mighty...low. Doesn't sound like the water level has improved since then. This drought we're having in the Southwest is terrible and seemingly never ending.

You might also want to check out Lake Mohave. That might be a little closer to Vegas than Laughlin. I'm never driven it from Vegas (only San Diego) so I'm not sure.

Well, I'm sure you and your wife will figure things out eventually.

Did you give her the link I asked you to give her to the Osher Institute at UNLV? If not, please do. Have a nice weekend!

BabyBoomers, I'm sure that you'll immediately dismiss this suggestion, but it might be helpful for someone else, so I'm going to toss it in. The suggestion is Big Bear Lake in CA. Big Bear (the town) still has a *bit* of a small town western feel when you get away from the touristy parts, and, of course, you have boating on the lake right there as well. Big Bear Lake is 2,971 acres. Motorized boats are OK there.

And, if you want an even smaller lake, just down the road is Lake Arrowhead which is 295 acres. Motorized boats ok there as well.

Again, BabyBoomers, I know you'll immediately say Big Bear isn't for you, but for people looking something for similar to what you are, it might be helpful so I'll share it here anyway.

And, with Amazon currently building that 600,000 sq. foot Logistics-Distribution Center, just north of The Ranch, the population is going to explode here, as will the traffic and probably the crime. The building that is being built is huge! Along with that, the I-25 is being widened just to accommodate the traffic.

Windsor has already expanded and lots and lots of houses there. It was really shocking to see that when we drove to Windsor a couple of months ago.

And, if Seniors are more acclimated to rodeo/ranch type culture here, they sure don't look like it or even talk about it. Like I told RosieSD, I called the Senior Center here and asked them if they wanted some Pro Rodeo Sports News and Farm & Ranch magazines and they told me "Sorry, no thanks. Nobody in this city is interested today in rodeo, farming or ranching." That told me a whole lot about Seniors living here.
No doubt that area has grown along with a lot of the Front Range but if that is what makes an area not livable for you then Las Vegas has gotta be one of the worst areas to choose from. Growth in homes, businesses and traffic are literally a permanent way of life. Anyone who has lived in Las Vegas for any 5 year period can tell you its just not a good idea, your basically asking for the same experience you are seeing times two.

Well, we've been to Vegas enough times to understand the growth it has. But, "growth" isn't the only thing we see here as not livable.

A few major attractions, for us, to Vegas is:
South Point's (Hotel/Casino) large and very nice Equestrian Center
The National Finals Rodeo, and all that is part of that, each December
And a casino that we don't have to drive miles to, or fly to

Another thing here: How about all of the older Seniors (as our age of almost mid 70's and higher) that love living in Las Vegas (the nicer parts, that is)?

But, as I keep saying, we have not made a 100% decision to move there yet.

One suggestion: bring a compass with you when you when you search for a place to rent. Avoid any property with significant west-facing windows.

There are many good neighborhoods within driving distance of South Point.

Currently, for a 1,058 sq. foot, 2 bedroom/2bath we are paying $1,720. Utilities: $110. Enclosed garage: $55. Been in this apartment since August 2019.

This is no problem with my wife's "work from home" job, but her job is thru a Temp Service and could end any month. Then we'd have to come down a couple of hundred dollars for rent. Most likely would still need a 2 bedroom/2 bath. Back in 2002-2003, we rented a 1 bedroom/1 bath, but it was too small for us.

I just turned 69. I moved to Vegas in May of 2019. I'm glad I made the move and like it here, but it was expensive and stressful. I couldn't afford to do now what I did then, cost of housing being a big factor.

I would think long and hard and do some extensive research if I was in your shoes. What if rent prices go up every year after you move in? You can bet they will. Make sure you can afford the move and it's worth it.
Sometimes the grass looks greener on the other side of the fence, but it's not.
