If you have physical limitations that don't make it safe to drive, I agree that you should limit your driving as much as possible.

Be sure to check into public transportation options in Las Vegas (and other places on your radar) if you won't be able to drive safely even on a local basis in the next couple of years.

I agree there is always Uber or Lyft but if one gets to that point they will stay home inside more often and not be as active so one can live almost anywhere then because in the apartment they chose to live in will have a heater/air conditioner. Weather won't be a factor but any active activities will be an issue if one can't function physically.

I do find it hilarious you are worried about crime increases ruining an area because of an Amazon warehouse. It isn't some low-income apartments coming in. If you want to move then come up with a real reason for it or else you are almost certain to regret it a year after you do it.

And really the Las Vegas area is no more interested in the rodeo than the Fort Collins area. Almost no one cares about the rodeo, its just where a lot of events happen. Events which require people to drive in from other states to take part in or to watch the events. The big rodeo events didn't come to Las Vegas because there was a huge local fan base, they showed up because their fan base liked to VISIT Las Vegas.

Laughlin is 96 miles from Vegas.

Lake Mead is a 40 minute drive, depending on traffic. That's about the time it takes to drive from Fort Collins to Cheyenne.

Above, you said that your longer distance driving days are behind you.

Would that include towing a boat for 40 minutes on Vegas freeways or 90 minutes (or more) out through the desert?

Was finally able to find the cost of shooting at the range you listed here. The fee for each of us is sort of high, compared to a year-long fee of $133, for the boat of us, at the range we were members of for 10 years. But, then again, Vegas isn't cheap to do things in, is it?

A 40 minute drive, towing a boat, isn't bad. When we lived in Colorado before, it took us about a 1/2 hour to drive from our house to one local lake that we spent a number of weekends boating at. Then again, we were 15 years younger back then!

When we lived in Jacksonville, Florida, we were 10 minutes from a boat ramp, that was until we put our boat into Dry Storage. In Dry Storage, a forklift would take our boat off of a rack and put into the water for us. But, that Dry Storage was some $233 per month!

Right now, it takes us about 10 minutes to get to local state park lake boat ramp.

It's hard for some to understand that, once older, there are things that just can't be done much, if any, anymore. I surely don't believe "age is only a number".

But, I guess, if a old/older Senior wants to do something bad enough, they will find a way. But, that "bad enough" can become dangerous as well.

Northern Colorado used to be (20-30+ years ago) far more "western" than it is now - that is alot more farms and ranches - until the area got discovered by the tech industry and the population exploded. CSU was an agricultural college. So "seniors" who are originally from the area are probably more acclimated to rodeo/ranch type culture than you might think. The senior centers in Wyoming serve a cafeteria style lunch for like $5, I go with my senior friend sometimes and it's great - everyone is very approachable and looking for someone else to visit with. Your wife can't take a 1/2 -1 hour lunch break ? I think you really should try it out a few times before throwing in the towel on Loveland.

.
The Loveland senior center also has a very active fishing club. It's hard to believe that absolutely no one in that fishing club isn't also into boating as well. Another City Data member who is part of the club invited Bb to join them when BB first moved to Loveland. Could have asked him whether anyone was into boating. But Babyboomers has already decided against the senior center-- even though he's got at least another year in Loveland before moving --- so no point wasting breath suggesting a visit.

Well, from what we have seen happen to Loveland during the last three years we've been here, there's absolutely no way that we are going to stay. Throwing in the towel is exactly what we will do.

And, with Amazon currently building that 600,000 sq. foot Logistics-Distribution Center, just north of The Ranch, the population is going to explode here, as will the traffic and probably the crime. The building that is being built is huge! Along with that, the I-25 is being widened just to accommodate the traffic.

Windsor has already expanded and lots and lots of houses there. It was really shocking to see that when we drove to Windsor a couple of months ago.

And, if Seniors are more acclimated to rodeo/ranch type culture here, they sure don't look like it or even talk about it. Like I told RosieSD, I called the Senior Center here and asked them if they wanted some Pro Rodeo Sports News and Farm & Ranch magazines and they told me "Sorry, no thanks. Nobody in this city is interested today in rodeo, farming or ranching." That told me a whole lot about Seniors living here.
