Hearing stories about how folks barely had time to escape the flames, no warnings. My family is on Oahu and didn't really hear about how bad this really was. This may end up being one of the deadliest US wildfires in recent history.

Damn, I checked his profile and he lists Lahaina as his residence.

Prayers from the mainland...
My 2 favorite vacations of all time were to the island of Maui...stayed at The Westin Kaanapali Resort and many times walked the beautiful streets of Lahaina while there.

Mikala,
In tears here.

What's the most effective way to donate right now?
Thank-you

The wind was at least 60 mph so not sure even if they had more it would be effective against the wind gusts.

We’re on Oahu now and safe. We sold our condo on front street 2 years ago, it was burnt to the ground as well as the two condo buildings on either side. Our neighbors are safe but homeless and in shelters. Our friend who work the west side are worried for their livelihoods. Lahaina as we once knew it is gone. Devastating.

Maybe some help, but those same winds would have blown a lot of the fire hose spray away too (at the end point).

It was just a perfect storm (bad place for a pun) of events that ended in disaster.

It hurts my heart. Friends are checking in on FB as safe, got calls out to others.
