Why men have to try and impress with their made up military back ground I will never understand. You obviously haven't run across one that knows a lot about military history or is a serious military buff. They know all the jargon and can fool the best.

Yup, they are out there. My hubbie was Navy during Nam..did his Viet Nam cruise on USS America....had this one guy who bragged how he was in some special forces during Nam....funny he was in the service but never could join the VFW only the American Legion...which means he was in the service just never served during a conflict from my understanding

One night he just really got on hubbie's nerves with his tales and hubbie asked to see his DD214's.....never did produce them

Our company hired a supposedly former 10 year army guy. He came to us bragging about his service and commented often that we just didn't have any idea what it was like over "there", leaving us to believe he had been to Iraq. It didn't take but a day or so to see he lacked the motivation, skills and simple knolage that a 10 veteran would have. He never talked about anything military related other than to say he was a ex, 10 year guy and that "you don't know what it was like over "there" "remark.

One day I asked him how long he had been in Iraq and he said "Oh, I never went over there, I am a only child and my mother stopped them from sending me as I am the last generation of our family."

He didn't even know how to mop a floor and I called him on it one day and he kept insisting he was well trained and knew what he was doing, after all, he HAD been trained by the BEST! I laughed at that and told him I DID have training on the proper way to mop, clean the mop afterwards ect in order to be a registered, certified cook and I could see he had absolutely NO training and that maybe he could fool everybody else but he didn't fool me.. His answer? "OK, you got me on that one, you are right..."

It was obvious to us all that he DID do 10 years somewhere but it wasn't in the service! (I guess that was as good a way to explain a 10 year absence from society as any?)

To replace that idiot, they did send us a retired Navy medic and he was 100%military.

One day, my dedicated senior non-commissioned officer, Sergeant First Class Alex Silva, brought me a retirement application for a well known Sergeant (SGT). I'll call him SGT Doe.

This soldier was reportedly the most decorated (for heroism) enlisted man we had assigned to the 25th at that time. High ranking officers had often pointed out his deeds as an example for others to emulate. SGT Doe was prior service (Korea and other places), had reached the rank of Master Sergeant, and was honorably discharged before reaching retirement eligibility. He had reenlisted to gain the 20 years active duty service required to retire. His military personnel records jacket (DA 201 file as we called it) reflected all his service data pretty accurately. Although his 201 file looked genuine and SGT Doe had been performing his duties in an outstanding manner, something contained within the 201 struck me as a little unusual. I had learned over my years of military personnel work, that these little suspicions proved out to be right. I've seen some soldiers fake educational qualifications, awards, promotions, test results, and various other items. My earlier training as a Personnel Records Specialist helped me to quickly detect inconsistencies within a 201 file.

As I thoroughly searched SGT Doe's 201, several small items raised red flags. This man supposedly had been awarded a Silver Star (SS) and many other medals too numerous to list. This SS medal did not look right to me...the documentation was suspicious.

I forwarded SGT Doe's retirement request to the Department of the Army Military Personnel Center located in Alexandria, Virginia. I knew the grizzled up old Chief Warrant Officer Four who was in charge of the Army Awards Department. I called him, told him SGT Doe's application was coming to him, and I asked him to carefully look at the Silver Star award.

About three weeks later, Chief Smith (I'll call him), called me and said that he had found out something very interesting about SGT Doe - he had received a Dishonorable Discharge from the Army in the early 1950's. This man was not a part of the Army...all his personnel records had been almost expertly falsified! SGT Doe was an imposter and had been found out by an expert! This "highly decorated" imposter was a slap in the face to the true soldiers who valiantly served with the 25th Infantry Division. I was glad the truth came out, and he was exposed as a false soldier.

Several years after this incident, I heard a story about a veteran who lived in a small town in the Midwest. This veteran was supposedly the most highly decorated man that city had ever produced. He was "top dog" and took the limelight at every ceremony honoring veterans. Well, some old wise World War II veterans (I have the utmost respect and gratitude for this group of veterans-I thank and salute them for the sacrifices they made to defeat the evil of that time) became suspicious and started to do some checking on this man. He too, was impersonating a true hero. He had never been in any type of military service!

that is quite the assumption to make from my statement. not only does it seem a bit condescending, it is logically an unsupportable argument.

i actually do know a number of people that never served in the military, and yet know a great deal about the military. there are plenty of military brats that can walk the walk and talk the talk well enough to be mistaken for the real thing.

but, in my experience, the idiots that pull stuff like this, whether masquerading as military, police, fireman, medical professional, or whatever else, are usually fairly emotionally unstable, and mentally incapable of understanding the tenuous ground upon which they tread.

sure, there are some expert fake vets out there, as described in the post that i quote above yours, but most of them are lazy, oblivious fools that could be found out by a second grader.

I have run into "SEALs" who couldn't tell me where BUDS was, or what different phases of training did what. The only thing they knew was what they could pick up from TV or reading. If they did BUDS, they should know where the ammo pit was, and they should know when they are allowed to come in for a landing. What class number. Which teams on on which coast. What is an SDV, what is a RIB. What is a Mark V, and what a G-12 is. If they can't answer all of those, they never went to BUDS. Most of which they'll learn in Phase I.

When I was attached to NAVSPECWAR GRU-TWO, DET 309 out of Little Creek Va. some friends of mine that were recruiters gave me a call and told me about a kid that was running around telling his girlfriend and male friends that he was a SEAL. I called my skipper and asked if what I should do, because the recruiters where afraid that this would get to the wrong people. He told me just to pull the kid off to the side and inform him that if it did stop that his commanding officer would be called. Needless to say the young lad went back to his ship with a different point of view.
I spent 11 years working for those boys and loved every day of it. They get all the best toys to play with and we traveled all over the world working for them. Oh, and the Mark V is a blast to ride on, as well, if you don't mind being strapped in while standing up at 50 knots.
If you realy want to see and experience a great time with them, in July they have thier "SEAL Reunion" in Little Creek and they put on one heck of a show for the folks at Ft Story Va, open to the public. One year we even had Demi More show up with Jesse "the body" Ventura, when she was filming her movie (G.I.Jane). Although we were told not to talk to her about any training or otherwise that the SEAL's do.

Well now he's bending all the neighbors ears telling them about how he used the callico m950 (hmm funny he didn't even knwo wtf it was until i told him) to hunt druglords andso many other lies it's truly unbelievable stories that make me want to pound his face in. Sooo i need away to absolutely out this jerk off please.....

Just ignore him and look at him with pity when you see him. Because its obvious that his life sucks so bad that he needs to make up lies just to impress you. So, what is a "Calico M-950? I was a small arms repair speciallist in the army, as well as a canon cocker.

General is not "one step up from dishonorable".

The five types of discharge are as follows:
1. Honorable
2. General (under honorable conditions) (also an ELS)
3. Other than honorable
4. Bad conduct
5. Dishonorable

General Discharge:
You receive a general discharge when you separate from the service, under honorable conditions, without a sufficiently meritorious military record to deserve an honorable discharge.

ELS (entry level separation) is when you leave the military before 180 days (6 months), and are not discharged due to bad conduct or dishonorable conditions.
