Another question, which I hope someone can answer, please. My husband's job is ending this Friday. We live in SC, he works in Charlotte. Does he file for unemployment where we live (SC) or where he works? (NC)? Thanks for any help!

That would be NC...and, be happy. SC is out of money.
figured i would post here. I got laid off and should be getting my unemployment starting this coming week. I was in the mortgage business and the only jobs I can locate are "temp jobs" I can for instance go to a company and underwrite loans, but it is 3-6 months assignment. My question is once the assignment is over can I re open the claim? If the job is out of state(this is in philadelphia, pa) do I have to collect benefits against the agency? I am unsure how this works considering its a temp agency.
Any insight would be great.
By all means, grab that contractor money. You never know...it could lead to a permanent job! I know many contractor underwriters that were later hired on a permanent basis.

You never know what 6 months could bring....
Yeah its for wells fargo in PhiladelphiaI am gonna give it a shot they said it could go perm, but with the craziness of the mortgage business right now its unknown.
I understand that the unemployment in NC exceeds that nationally. Is this a result of the banking industry in Charlotte? If not, what regions/cities have been most impacted, and which least impacted?
I'm really surprised no one has responded to this question. Doesn't anyone have a clue concerning the distribution of unemployment or the causes in NC?
I'm really looking for something other than just statistics....such as what type of industries were impacted, and what cities are seeing the impact most.
I would say the biggest industries that have been impacted are the textile, furniture, and other manufacturing industries where the production has been sent either overseas or to Mexico. Plant after plant, factory after factory have closed. Many towns here in North, and South Carolina, have been devastated economically by the loss of so many of these jobs that supported generations before us.
The banking industry is going to be impacted by the economic downturn, but the full brunt of those job losses has not occured yet, and the extent to which that will effect the state economy remains to be seen.
Location: I currently exist only in a state of mind. one too complex for geographic location.

I also think that perhaps the large influx of people relocating to the state is an issue. many move down here without a job, and some take the jobs of residents. it can't help.
