The Ravens / Lamar Jackson story has this news today from the NY Times Athletic.
"The Ravens placed a non-exclusive franchise tag on Jackson yesterday, an unsurprising move considering how negotiations have gone. What is shocking: Jackson is legitimately on the market now, with the caveat that Baltimore can match any contract he agrees to.
So, two options: Either Jackson finds a fair deal on the market and Baltimore matches, which is what both sides probably want to happen. It essentially amounts to arbitration — let a third party, a.k.a. some other team, decide what Jackson is worth. Or … someone could swoop in with an exorbitant offer that scares Baltimore off.
Every quarterback-needy team should be toying with a Jackson offer, though plenty of teams reportedly won't be engaging in the sweepstakes. He’s a 26-year-old former MVP whose only red flag is lingering injury issues. He is easily the best quarterback available. Will someone swoop in with a big offer? It was be fascinating to watch.
It’s a massive risk for Baltimore when you look at it that way. Don’t forget that the Browns gave Deshaun Watson a $230 million, fully guaranteed contract just a year ago. If the Ravens let Jackson walk, they’ll get two first-round picks in return — a scarce haul compared to what Houston got back from Cleveland for Watson."
Two 1st round draft picks seems a good deal to let go of a 26-year old QB with lingering injury issues....

Lamar Jackson issued a series of tweets yesterday at 10:48 a.m. ET, detailing his wish to be traded. The tweets came just 12 minutes before Ravens head coach John Harbaugh began his scheduled press conference at the NFL owners’ meetings. What timing.
Jackson said he asked the Ravens for a trade back on March 2, adding that the team had not been “interested in meeting my value.” According to The Athletic’s Jeff Howe, his announcement stunned teams around the league. Both Baltimore and Jackson did a great job in keeping the request quiet.
But … why? For weeks now, Jackson has been free to negotiate a contract with other teams, and any signed offer sheet would cost his new team two first-round picks if Baltimore let him walk. A trade for Jackson might cost more than that. So it seems Jackson isn’t finding many suitors on the open market and wants to pressure the Ravens into either accepting his terms or finding a new team as soon as possible.
Harbaugh, meanwhile, handled the ambush well. The first 26 questions he received were about Jackson. Twenty-six! Harbaugh nevertheless praised the quarterback and maintained that he wants Jackson with the Ravens next season and beyond. It’s what the Ravens must do if they want to retain Jackson or preserve his trade value. Both sides have dug in. The Colts are reportedly interested in trading for Jackson, and Patriots owner Robert Kraft said yesterday rapper Meek Mill informed him Jackson wants to be a Patriot. There’s intrigue in Washington, too. It feels like we’re only halfway through this."

Hearing some chatter that Texans might not go QB, might go for defense. No one knows, all speculations. Anderson and Wilson are top "D" players, QBs might fall but waiting until their 12 pick, those 2 guys might not be there.
This is what makes the draft interesting to me, lots of pre-draft conversation. Much of it is blown out of the water in the 1st 10 picks or so.

Texans could be just trying to play the field to see what other teams will pay to move up.
Wouldn't be a bad idea to trade down a bit, especially if the QB they want is taken by Carolina. There are still good QB's out there that could make a difference for the Texans if they slip a few spots and get some more picks.
The NFL draft starts tomorrow, will the Lamar Jackson saga come to a frothy conclusion. . . . only the shadow knows .... I need Howard Cosell to call in and 'splain all this bizarreness to me.
