I second Jerry Williams post. Due to my family situation I am stuck here but I wish I could leave. Badger and I have had this conversation before, but to me Lynchburg offers very little arts & entertainment and over all few things interesting.

NHSuz - I am VERY glad to see you will visit before you move. We all have different opinons and expectations. Personally, there is NOTHING here for me.

Let's not turn this into another bash Lynchburg thread. The OP can search the other ones for that.

OP: Lynchburg is not for everyone but no place is. I agree that you should visit, check out everything for yourself but isn't that a given? No one would throw a dart at a map and just move. Best of luck in finding your favorite place.

How's that Irish economy working for you? Biggest bust in the world I hear.

To make a long story short, the Irish economy has been hit extremely hard for a series of reasons. Two very good friends had to move back to Australia because of this. The Irish animation sector has gone from strength to strength in the last few years. While traditional enterprise recovers from the reverberations of the budget, the tendency toward international focus and export-based models has reasonably shielded some in the media from the worst effects of the crisis. Be it service work on a home-grown TV series, an international co-production or an animated feature, Irish animation producers continue to create and sustain employment over long periods and are demonstrably the largest and most consistent source of sustainable employment in the film/TV sector. So much so that animation production is the only audiovisual area to see continuous growth over the last three years - and 2010 should be no different.

Just to be on the safe side I have started doing some freelance illustrations for Dublin based advertising agencies and newspapers, at the moment I have to turn down some of these requests, but who knows what will happen tomorrow?

Thanks! I have been here for over 2 years now. I was a bit scared at first, but it has worked out very well so far.

It's just that so many of us cannot see the appeal of Lynchburg! What are we missing?

You've heard the expression "It's a ____ thing; you wouldn't understand". Fill in what ever you want, ie., It's a Southern thing. . . etc.

I guess -- It's just a Lynchburg thing; you wouldn't understand.

It just works for some people. Best of luck to the OP, the man in Ireland and The Joe. Hope y'all find the place that makes you happy.

You have to be desiring the bucolic way of life, for sure. Living is easy here no doubt: cheap, little stress, no traffic, etc. For young families and retirees probably ok, people that are from the area with a lot of family ties and old friends will accept it.

Anyone else, debatable.........
