Regarding cool and comfortable nights and mornings: June 2013

Sacramento is much more like Seattle and Portland than the Southern Central Valley in June in the morning and night.

Nights and Mornings in the 50's:

Seattle - 25 days
Portland - 24 days
Sacramento - 23 days
Fresno - 1 day
Austin - 0 days

Nights and Mornings in the 60's:

Sacramento - 8 days
Seattle - 6 days
Portland - 4 days

Regarding uncomfortable hot nights and mornings: What were the Low temps at night and into mid-morning?

Phoenix never got below 75 degrees in June. (30 days above 75 degrees).

Phoenix had 16 days where the low temp never got below 80 degrees.

Sacramento was always in the 50's or 60's after midnight and up until mid-morning. (30 days of 50's and 60's) in June.

Sacramento never had a night or morning where the temp stayed above 70 degrees in June.

Austin nights and mornings were never below 70 degrees for 26 days. (Only 4 days in the 60's)

Even Fresno was more comfortable than Phoenix and Austin as it had 20 days of low temps in the 60's.

Good grief! Here, Chimérique, why don't you just post this link for everyone. It will save you a lot of useless typing.

NOAA National Weather Service

Oops! Never mind. I just did post it.

The constant comparisons with all the other places are useless. For one reason, anyone with half a brain can make their own comparisons. For another, a whole lot of people like the weather where they are which is part of why they live there. Finally, it doesn't make Sacramento weather any better or worse. It simply is what it is.

In my 20 years in Sacramento I found the weather a bit toasty in the summer and a bit wet and chilly in the winter. On the whole it was easily bearable and often quite pleasant. Sometimes not so much. That's pretty much been my experience in the eight other states and three other countries in which I've also lived for years. No place is perfect. Some are just better than others and that includes Sacramento.

Can't help yourself can you? Got to get your little jab in there. Usually, when I don't care or like what you have to post I simply ignore it which is most of the time.

Half a brain would show that I am comparing, contrasting, and summarizing and putting these facts into perspective.

I'm not trying to convince you or anyone of anything other than posting facts and dispelling preconceptions and myths about the Weather in Sacramento.

Yes, i was there that day (City Data quotes don't include the original posting date of the quote).
It felt too cold for Sac, and the morning low was like 52!

Actually, I got that. Perhaps I have half a brain after all. Who knew?

Ahhh, another whole house fan night. Looking forward to my house being in the low 60s when I get up tomorrow morning.

Whole house fan is a good investment if just for the comfort of having a cool house through the morning and on into most of the afternoon during the summer (saves on the electric bill too). Another reason why the weather here is not as bad as some think. Works great in this region...not so much where the evenings/nights are simply too hot and/or humid.

10 at night: Jul 31

Sacramento and Portland: 68 degrees

PHX - 102 degrees - the southwest
Austin - 92 degrees - the south
Fresno - 83 degrees - southern central valley

Good illustration of how Sacramento is cooler and more comfortable hour by hour over the course of the summer than the South, Southwest, and the Southern Central Valley. Sacramento is 15-34 degrees cooler than the cities represented by region.

Thanks Chimerique. Most of us really like the comparisons.....you can look at weather data all day but putting actual times and periods in perspective make it easier! We know this takes time for you to do so once again thanks.
