Never thought I could live my whole life as a Southerner (even with a drawl) and then, just like that, turn into a Yankee overnight without ever moving.

Indeed, but time marches on. Towns/neighborhoods change. I remember when Tysons Corner was just a dirt crossroad with a general store.

As someone who lives in the NE, VA is NOT in the north east.

I will give you this. I will use the dreaded "mid Atlantic". VA is quintessential mid Atlantic. I lump MD, VA and DE into the mid Atlantic because they don't really fit the typical definition of NE or SE.

VA is most certainly not north east. It definitely can be considered southeast. The most accurate definition is probably mid Atlantic because it has enough uniqueness to be viewed differently as a sub region.

I also think you run into the same problems trying to classify states like WV, KY, MO. they don't fit neat and tidy into a region either

I agree that VA is NOT in the Northeast. Mid-Atlantic was a term (not used anymore?) - otherwise, South.

Virginia is not the Northeast. Never has been nor will it be- It's Mid-Atlantic or South.

"Mid-Atlantic" is still used. For example, Kaiser refers to the DMV as the "Mid-Atlantic" region.

Safe for me to say VA is a northeast state. Only NOVA is in the NE corridor, but the rest is jus like the outer Northeast.

The question is if West Virginia is Northeast as well. Heck, should Kentucky be midwestern?

Also considering how vast the South is stretching from the Atlantic to El Paso, Why is the Northeast broken off from the Midwest. Shouldn’t it all just be the “North”?

We’d have three regions. West, North and South.
Congratulations!

I lived in a part of PA that was certifiably in the deep south, confederate flags and attitudes included.

When I was taught social studies in NY State, we were a middle Atlantic state as was NJ, PA, MD, VA, and DE.

I think it's a useful term, and I am not sure why it seems to have fallen into disfavor.

TC then added a vet clinic at the light at 123 & 7. Next light on 7 going west was in Leesburg.
