Everyone in this thread knows that Youngkin never would have won had Roe been overturned prior to the election.

Youngkin barely won because turnout was so low. 800k fewer people voted that year as opposed to the year before (when Biden won by over 400k votes).

Democrats suck at long game politics. We think voting once every 4 years is enough. It’s infuriating. Northam pulled the state into the future socially while also ushering in the biggest economic expansion in generations (largest single year investment ever in the history of the commonwealth) and preserving that legacy couldn’t get young Democrats off of the sofa to vote. Now they’ll be fired up because of all of the right wing nonsense, which will take years to undo…

Well, when the choice came down to the super uninspiring Terry McAuliffe over either issue filled or really unknown candidates in the primary, it’s a hard sell to get young democrat voters to the polls. Youngkin was practically handed the election at that point.

You do realize that an off year state election always has a much lower turnout than a presidential election?

Actually, going by Virginia history, 2021 was a record-breaking 'high turnout' off year election. It was a state election that became nationalized because of the media and many localities ran out of ballots and had to get more.

More votes were cast than in any other Virginia gubernatorial election, resulting in the Governor, Lt. Governor and Attorney General receiving a higher total raw vote tally than any of their predecessors.

Now I'm not saying that means anything necessarily other than that to call it 'low turnout' is ignorant. Also, it's very entitled to think people ought to show up for your candidate and then being mad when they don't. Who's to say they would have voted your preferred way anyway?

It was a vote by Virginians to slow down it's transfer to a "Wokeism" state.

Welcome to VA. Either / or; conservative or liberal, the terms change over time. Even those who were at the Constitutional Convention couldn't agree on its meaning and why the first political parties were formed during the Washington Administration. (It's one reason why at the end of his life Washington stopped talking to Jefferson - he was not at the Convention of course, but was the leader of the anti-administration faction.) Large or small govt.; implied or expressed powers were debates then and are debates now. Enjoy VA and enjoy the history and don't get too caught up in the modern dichotomy. After all, on his last day in office, March 3, 1817, James Madison "Father of the Constitution" vetoed a road and canal funding bill saying that the federal govt. did not have the authority to pay for roads without a Constitutional amendment, yet his successor James Monroe said such an amendment wasn't needed.

Sounds like you want to break away from "woke" culture and join a more traditional group that shares your beliefs and provides opportunities for exercise and exploration. Perhaps Virginia is the place for you to settle down.
