There are places to hike like out by El Dorado Lake or by Cheney Lake. You can drive further and find many day hiking trips with a 1-2 hour drive of Wichita.

Lol at Kansas. I have not missed that place one bit. As a matter of fact, I have been to Kansas City at least a dozen times since the last time I was actually in Kansas. It's so easy to spend several days in KC seeing all the cool parts of the city and checking out attractions and culture without ever crossing into KS.

Someday, I might run over to Overland Park or something and interact with all the people that think they live in the best place on the planet, but it never seems worth my time when in KC.

Sad thing is. As much as Johnson County people think they live someplace special. They are certainly right when you look at the rest of the state.

KS is still a joke and honestly so is Missouri, at least politically and culturally. But least Missouri has plenty to do in both urban areas and rural areas.

Pretty sure you are required by law there to wear sports gear 7 days a week too. (and I'm a sports fan).

Kansas is a place you get gas on the way to somewhere else.

That was fun. Been a while since I did that .

I've been to Nebraska, Iowa and Missouri. Question, am I missing out on anything in Kansas or should I keep flying over it and never bother to visit... I assume Wichita is the place to see there.

If you like basketball, I would visit Lawrence and attend a men's basketball game at Allen Field House-"the house that Wilt (Chamberlain) built". Wichita isn't interesting....

Wichita is boring if you are 14-30 years old.

Its great for young families and retirees

I will add that I was at a Black Flag concert in the old Hmong neighborhood in the 80's. So you get what you give.

with the crime rate there i'm a bit surprised that it would be considered retiree friendly.

Allen Fieldhouse was actually built and in operation the spring before Wilt got to KU. But he sure helped fill it up.

The problem with Wichita is the nice areas are small and surrounded on all sides by crap. Bums roam through the two decent central neighbourhoods - College Hill and Riverside. People who care about vagrants roaming the streets move to the outlying suburb-towns so quality is drained from the city - leaving the low-class people to ruin the areas and schools. The main issue is this - why would anyone move here? They would’t. And since the ghetto divides Wichita into East and West Wichita, it’s really not a city of 400k - it’s two smaller cities that don’t interact. Oh, and there’s tents on downtown streets now - those small outlying towns are looking better and better. The avenue for the well-off is country clubs and private school. You’ll do well as a Catholic here though - solid schools. It’s flat - so if you like that…..

That would have to be outside of Wichita in one of the suburb towns.
