Description: Unlike the nearby Vintage Twist shop, this is an antiques shop to poke around in for a bargain. Eight dealers share this seemingly small house, filling each room with china, porcelain, pottery, jewelry, silverware, paintings, mirrors, vintage toys, baskets, rugs, glassware, and books. Look around for more unusual items like kimonos, wooden folk-art fish, teapots, clocks, canes, wagon wheels, and fishing rods. The shop looks tiny, but you will keep finding new rooms filled with different eras and selections. The prices are very reasonable for Litchfield County, and there are bargains to be hunted in the nooks and crannies of this modest shop.

Description: This unpretentious low warehouse building on the side of Route 202 just west of Litchfield proper doesn’t seem like it would house some of the best auctions this side of Manhattan. But it does. Started in 1994, this 10,000-square-foot auction house regularly holds impressive estate sales, usually racking up over a million dollars in one night. Owners Nicholas and Weston Thorn sell antique furniture, books, and fine art, and here that means names you’ll recognize. They also do appraisals. If you want to see items go for thousands of dollars regularly, come for one of their major sales, which happen five times a year.
