Description: World War II buffs and vets will find this 3,600-square-foot museum a treasure trove of over 5,000 artifacts, mostly from World War II to the present. There are airplane models and uniforms from the various military branches. There’s even a PX where you can get military memorabilia and that inevitable vacation T-shirt! Admission is $3 for adults, $1 for children. Call first to check hours of operation. The best way to get to the museum is to take the Kearney Street exit from US 65 and head west.

Description: The large, parklike area is ablaze in fall color with red maples and sweet gums, and in spring with redbud, dogwood, and crab apple and pear blossoms. This old cemetery is the final rest for both Confederate and Union soldiers and a lone Revolutionary War veteran who made it this far west. It is also the cemetery for veterans from conflicts after the Civil War, including five Medal of Honor recipients, whose headstones are engraved in gold. The cemetery is decorated with small flags on Memorial Day, and many area families make the annual trek there to honor their nation’s soldiers.
