Description: Owner Maggie Abbott has more than 20 years of historical-costuming experience, and she has owned various Civil War clothing stores in town over the years. She opened a shop at this location in late 2008, and the small but comfy space here suits Maggie’s personality, allowing her to interact with her customers on a personal level. The shop focuses on custom-made historical clothing from the mid-1800s, especially wedding and formal attire, as well as rentals of both military and civilian Civil War clothing. Wigs, hats, jewelry, and numerous other accoutrements are available to complete your outfit. Maggie also carries the largest selection of period perfumes available in the eastern United States. La Belle Femme is open Thursday through Sunday.

Description: Located next to the field that was the site of Pickett’s Charge and adjacent to the battlefield, the Gettysburg Battle Theatre puts on a multimedia presentation of the three days of the battle and the events leading up to it. The theater is open daily, and the presentation runs every 45 minutes from 9:00 a.m. to the last showing at 8:15 p.m. There’s also a gift shop filled with Gettysburg gifts and collectibles on-site. And if you decide it’s time to satisfy your stomach as well as your brain, General Pickett’s Buffets (see the Restaurants chapter) is located downstairs. (The restaurant and theater share a building, but they’re not affiliated.) Children younger than age four are admitted for free.
