The order number means that they have entered your application into the system. In other words... opened your envelope. They definitely do NOT open the mail as soon as it comes.
They quote a 14-16 week time to process applications. That countdown starts when you get your order number. The year that your application has been sitting there waiting to be opened does not count.
I received an order number. That was within a day or two of my (original) check being deposited. Fortunately, I was able to work with my bank to have my old check still be valid.
They originally asked me for a replacement check in October. I explained the bank would honor the original check. They told me they would deposit my check then.
My check did not get deposited until January (more than 90 days after the discussion of a replacement check when they claimed to be working on my application). If my bank stale-dated after 90 days (which used to be pretty common), I would have had to send a _second_ replacement check in January.
Watch your bank account to see when the check is deposited. Nothing _starts_ to move until then.
I truly hope aries63 gets an OBC in eight weeks. I also suggest not getting hopes up. It will be a small miracle if the replacement check is deposited in 8+ weeks.
Accept a credit card over the phone? What do you think this is - the 20th century? New York isn't some big, fancy town with all that modern stuff. Do you know how many stone tablets they have to go through to get the rock your OBC is chiseled upon?
It is amazing that I have not heard of a single person getting a NYC OBC. Plenty of NY STATE OBCs have been sent out. It is now 13 months and they have done nothing. Insane.
