I wouldn't look at it that way with Zito. He came to the Giants when the team was built around Bonds.

Though you can correctly state he has been somewhat less than they had hoped when getting him a few years ago, he has been a great role model and mentor for the young pitchers brought up, such as Cain, Lincecum and Sanchez. Often, the contribution goes well beyond what you see in the boxscores, and you really can see some of the other stuff if you go and watch the morning workout sessions during spring training.

Zito has great work habits, and has a good approach to his craft. Also, he is pretty approachable, and willing to discuss the craft with others. Some veterans won't due this, viewing the other guys as competition (could be more secure because of his age and contract) or just being a bit grumpy.

Is that what you are saying?
The players that got Giants into the playoffs get paid a lot less then the Yankees players who are filled with steroids.

Lincecum should be paid just as much as Zito also.

What you are describing is the function of a coach, someone who can be hired for a great deal less than what Zito is being paid.

In terms of intangible contributions that Zito might make, the very best one would be to announce his retirement. Or maybe he could call a press conference and tell everyone "I do not feel right collecting the sort of money that the Giants are paying me while not producing the results which were expected. Because of this, I have instructed my agent to void the contract if the club agrees, and then negotiate a new deal based on more realistic pay scale. Thank you for coming."

This is especially ironic coming from a Giants fan you realize?

You also realize that the players who got the Giants into the playoffs get paid more than the players who got the Rangers and Reds into the playoffs, right?

I think I speak for most fans that don't have any dogs left in the fight, a Texas/SF series would be a lot of fun to watch.

....But not for the TV execs. The ratings would be dismal.

Hey, we all would watch it here in coastal California where everyone I know is really excited about the Giants. The games are on everywhere you go, all the stores and the restaurants.

And, at least our fans don't hold up signs that make fun of opposing players (especially Tim Lincecum) or throw things on to the field like they did in Philly. Not when I was at the game anyway & we were down in the lower tier over the dugout so we would have seen. The Yankees are sort of like a franchise & our guys seem so much more down-to-earth and natural (not steroided up). Well, to this senior citizen anyway.

Sorry to be so uncivil and anti-PC by making fun of the opposing players, esp. Timmy. As for throwing things- what was thrown?

Enjoy the win. You people must be riding quite a wave about now.
