Well, I'm going to try it. I'm already off I-10, all gassed up and car gets 31 mpg, so I should easily make it through.

On to El Paso! As soon as the sun is a little higher. I'll gas up there once again.

I stopped at Van Horn, halfway there. Yikes, gas is $2.15. Everywhere else it's been under $2.

Guess I've been lucky previously. Wonder what it'll be in Arizona.

I'm in. Socorro TX, it's 24 miles from El Paso and they're allowing me to stay overnight.

It's early, mountain time here, but I want to be fresh when I travel through New Mexico.

Good decision to gas up and make a run for it through NM

Update on our weird snow storm: we got 5-7" in the metro & eastern MN. Update: The news guy just reported 9" in Burnsville - as you know this is a suburb south of me.

It's that thick wet stuff that clings to the tree's branches and is so beautiful. I still have a lot on my giant maple so it's red/orange against the white branches.

I've heard drivers can be wonky in NM so drive carefully.

Umbria, Yes, I heard about the snow from my brother. Stay warm. As for drivers, they can be wonky anywhere. Two especially come to mind; one who stopped dead still on the freeway, almost causing a collision, so they could get in the right lane for the turnoff. The other just zooming over 4 lanes in front of everyone so he could. The first one by New Orleans, the second in Texas.

Wow, slept so well last night. I thought I wouldn't because of all the semis but no, slept straight through. It got chilly but I was snug with all my blankets. At first, when I was putting things together in Minnesota, I thought I was overdoing it with two sleeping bags, a warm comforter doubled over and a fleece throw which was a gift from one of the tribes when I left my job. But I certainly appreciated having them last night.

When I left Arizona for Minnesota I put most of my sweatshirts in storage. Yes, you need them in Arizona's winter. I will gratefully retrieve them out of storage when I get there, one of my first stops.

I also look forward to having my old mechanic look over the car when I get there. It's a small shop and his wife and i really hit it off so I was always confident when I took it in for regular maintenance. She was fascinated by my traveling plans and I have a lot to share.

Well, I made it through New Mexico. I'm at the first rest stop after the welcome sign. Now on to get gas and then, Sierra Vista to see my mechanic.

This car has sure held up well.

Decided to in Benson because I remembered there was a Loves here. They're allowing me to spend the night. It's hot but I'm under a tree and there's a nice breeze.
