I was eating one a few weeks ago and something clicked - that's it! This is the last one. Ever.

We threw away all the "vegetable" oils and butter substitutes and so forth in our house. We use beef tallow (easy to make yourself) lard (cheap) or butter (good for you).
But what about peanut oil?......... I use it to deep fry fish a few times a year. Anyone got any information/opinions about peanut oil?
Peanut oil is healthy along with olive oil. I avoid canola and soybean oils. Check ingredients of everything, as soy lecithin and soybean oils hide in many food items. I also avoid modern wheat as well as I think that is a key component of the ongoing obesity epidemic in the US. Barley malt is another ingredient that I watch for as well.

You specified "modern" wheat, and that's an important point. I'd say "modern American" wheat.

American wheat is by far the worst. Avoid buying the store bought bread like the plague, hundreds of ingredients and highly processed.

Is ghee one of the “good oils”. It’s used in a lot of Indian/Pakistani cooking and I find it’s perfect for searing a steak without ruining the flavour. Someone told me it’s bad for you though. Is this true or is it just the typical anti dairy crusade a lot of social media seems to be hyping up these days?

Agree; there is no shortage, here on C-D and elsewhere, of elitist food snobs. To paraphrase Sheriff Andy Taylor, "What's wrong with it? I like it. It's good!"

I believe ghee is just butter that has had the whey boiled out if it.

Sorry about that. There are some major differences across the same food in different countries so it wouldn't surprise me if Canada and US McDonalds use different things for their meat. Or different percentages of meat in their meat. Or whatever.

I prefer to pay a bit more for much higher quality food items than having to deal with negative health impacts of poor quality food. Many other countries ban the sale of foods with many of the chemicals and preservatives that are commonly sold in the US.

Deep fried foods are unhealthy. Peanut oil is also a "vegetable" oil and vulnerable to oxidative damage.

Ghee is clarified butter (lactose removed) and has a longer shelf life than butter and higher smoke point.
