Yes. Ford owners now have access to the Supercharger locations that they have access to. Others will be coming in over the coming months. To me it's less understandable than the short cables causing some issues. It's been a year for Tesla owners to accept reality. They might not like Tesla's decision to open the chargers but it is reality.

"Ford order link crashes as EV customers rush to get free Tesla charging adapter"

Whoa. I guess this is successful. Depending on your point of view, of course.

And another interesting article:
Quote:
"The business behind Tesla opening its Supercharger network
:
:
Tesla is charging Ford EV owners differently than Tesla’s own EV owners. Looking at the costs at different charging stations in the US and Canada, it looks like Tesla is charging Ford EV owners about a 30% premium per kWh of charging at Superchargers on average.

That can get expensive really quickly.

Tesla offers a solution. Non-Tesla EV owners, like Ford’s EV owners, can pay a $13 per month Supercharging membership to pay the same price per kWh as Tesla owners.
:
:
I could see Tesla making over $1 billion a year in revenue just from non-Tesla EVs using the Supercharger network in North America by the end of the decade.

Globally, it should be three times that"

And another interesting article...

"BP buys $100M of Tesla chargers as oil majors prep for a post-gas future"

So BP has a new DC fast-charging network business called BP Pulse, and they've struck a deal with Tesla, to buy a big block of their chargers. Tesla will sell you their cars. And they'll sell you electrons. And they'll sell you charging hardware. So many ways, to get paid. Interesting though because until now, the Tesla charging network has been a proprietary, closed business. Not any more.

And also interesting that at least one company that's in the gas station business, is hedging its bets and getting into the charging station business as well, and to some extent, colocating them. It's smart, because this way no matter what the customer is driving, they get paid.

They need to be all in the same page and put the charge ports in the same locations. I really don't like Tesla's though since it requires backing into a spot. I'd rather see them at the front, like the Leaf.

It's kind of an interesting question, particularly as we move away from slower charging vehicles to faster charging ones. Mine is on the slower side. Ioniq 5/6 are 20-25 minutes, Tesla 25-30 for an 80% charge. That doesn't really leave you enough time to walk to a nearby restaurant and get a sit-down lunch. It's coffee shop and maybe a sammie time and then you need to be back to the car. Charging losers like the Polestar 2 and MachE that take 45 minutes are about perfect for that mainstreet or small town downtown location where you can talk a short walk to a nearby restaurant for a sit-down lunch and get back since it's going to be a while. If you're talking a Bolt which takes about an an hour and 15 for an 80% charge you're definitely going to want to be somewhere you'll be able to take a 30 minute walk after you have lunch, or bring a book, watch a couple episodes. You definitely don't want to be in some off the freeway gas station for over an hour in your Bolt. If you're talking a 20 minute charge in a Ioniq 5 though it's the opposite. You don't want to waste a bunch of time driving off the freeway to get to a nice location to do a 20 minute charge. What you want is that gas station location, all the better if there's a Starbucks or Pete's or similar coffee shop rather than just the normal couple fast food joints nearby.

Word coming out on Twitter that Rivian owners now have access to Tesla Superchargers. No announcement has been made by either side, and no Rivian owners have received adaptors from Rivian.

But there are 3rd party adaptors out in the wild (generally cost about $200) and people with those adaptors (Or Ford adaptors) can now charge at Superchargers using the Tesla app.

Official announcement has been made by Rivian. They also announced that all Rivian owners will get free adaptors. And apparently other EVs will gain access to Rivian's very small but growing charging network later this year.

I’m on a road trip this coming weekend. I wonder if I’ll see any third-party cars out there.
