i live in a 1 bedroom apt. rented out for $1350 a month here in brooklyn, new york. this is not a condo nor is it a ghetto apt. it's renovated inside of an old building. i refuse to buy property. too much headache and worry and i don't want a mortgage. anyhow, i get to use unlimited water (hot and cold) throughout the year. this means i can happily shower twice (which i actually do) or three times a day. i just don't have a laundry machine here (i can sneak one in and get away with it i am sure) in my apt. so essentially heat and hot water are included in the rent. the building gives heat that it controls during the cold season. i cannot control when it is given or how much. i pay for my own AC which is in use from june to roughly end of september. it's freezing or cold outside the rest of the time (gray clouds too).

how much do you all pay for monthly use of water? i keep seeing people who talk about lowering their water bills.

My water is actually unmetered, meaning no matter how much I use, it is the same cost. I'm not a renter, I own my house, that is just how my company does it. My cost is around $16 winter and $32 summer (more in the summer because of watering lawns, which are not on irrigation). That is pretty rare though.

The average bill in my area for a family of 4 in a 3 bedroom, 2 bath house with pressurized irrigation for the yards is probably about $30-40. No idea for 1 person in a 1 bedroom, though. Part of the bill is taxes, etc, and doesn't scale down, so I'd say maybe $15-20.

I currently live in an apartment where water is included in the rent. Thank goodness! We are moving this summer to a nearby city and I am finding that many places do not include water in the rent and I'm trying hard to find a place that does, especially if we are able to get a place with washer and dryer hookups. Our current place doesn't have w/d hookups so I imagine that's part of why they are willing to pay the water since it's just showering/cooking/dishes.

Anyway, before we moved here we lived in a house and with five people, a washer & dryer, and outdoor plants/garden (no yard to water really, we planted grass alternatives that did fine without watering) it ran about $50 to $60 a month. At the time I had 2 teenage boys who didn't shower unless forced to do so so I imagine it could have been higher!

My Monthly Water/Sewer bill over the last 9 years avg apx $46/month. Me and Son (now 16).
About 1/3 of the bill is water 2/3 for sewer.

There is a 'Customer service' fee of ~$5/month in included in the above number , and a Min gallon usage billing amount, so does not matter if i reduce the water usage I still pay for 5000/gallons a month.

The $ per 1K gallon goes up if you use over 10K, and even higher if you use over 25K gallon of water per month.

Small house, very large lot, one person.
Between $30 and $40 a month - a bit higher in summer when I water the garden, the pond, etc.
I pay my water bill quarterly; my most recent was $96.06.
The base water/sewage rate is $72 per quarter and metered use is calculated by whatever units used over the base rate.

My combined water and sewer bill is $94 a month. We get 700 gallons of water and then it is charged per gallon after that. The sewer is based on the number of ppl living in the home.

We average about $20/month for a house with 2 adults. We get billed for sewer separately.
