I find if I add a Ha it becomes a complete sentence as in "Ha, nope" "Ha, Nooo" as deadpan as possible, they don't even ask next time - works best in a small community.

I usually say yes. I like rounded totals. I like giving to charity. In the rare instances I use cash, I hate having change (coins). I either throw it away or toss it into a bin in m truck and giving it to the fake homeless guy on the corner with a sign. When I do my personal accounting, I round everything up or down. I do not like to have to deal with the extra digits. So, round numbers on a card charge make me happy.

Where is this happening? Name and shame, please.

Almost everywhere I shop in person now has a separate card reader, so the cashier doesn't even handle my payment. Often, the card is already swiped (or chipped) as the items are being scanned.

So, if I understand this, after all the items have been totalled, the cashier stops, looks at the total and suggests the amount less than the next whole dollar as a charitable contribution? I also imagine a whole conversation ensues around what the charity does, etc., etc.

This is just beyond bizarre -- it would be a nightmare at some of the high-speed checkouts that customers prefer.

Since it started intruding on my purchasing activity. I'm there to shop; not to give to charity. When and if I choose to give to charity, I know when and how to do that, and it's not while I'm paying for my purchases...
