Providence and New Haven are not on the best fit line, nor are they balanced distance/equidistant between New York City and Boston.
Hartford is the Missing Megalopolis Link.
The defining feature of the Northeast Megalopolis is Rte 1/I-95/Acela-Northeast Corridor Amtrak. New Haven and PVD are on those lines. Hartford is not.
The northeast megaregion can be divided into three subregions: New England, the Mid-Atlantic north, and the Mid-Atlantic south. New England is Portland, ME, Boston, Providence, RI, and CT. The Mid-Atlantic north is NYC, New Jersey, Philly, and Wilmington, DE. The Mid-Atlantic south is Baltimore, DC, and NoVa.
Pretty good breakdown.
I think you forgot to include Vermont & New Hampshire in New England.
Also, I'd add Richmond, VA to the Mid-Atlantic south.
