Why can’t they build this stadium at the Union Bleachery redevelopment site or County Square? Nobody can seem to answer that question. Both sites are right along the Swamp Rabbit Trail also.
For the county square option, I was told with the new development going on, there would not be enough space for a stadium plus all the parking that would be needed.
For the Union Bleachery site, what benefit is it to have it there, other than being in Greenville city? It's no where near downtown Greenville (as in Falls Park area). It's not walkable to restaurants/bars.
The whole idea of putting a stadium downtown is to make it walkable to other destinations or to bring people in to a downtown area that has nothing. Then things follow. But in our situation, downtown is already vibrant. It doesn't need any help, it's doing great on its own. Yes, the Drive stadium helped and kickstarted things, but if the baseball left Greenville today, the area would still be hopping.
Taxpayers should not be burdened with the cost of building a stadium for a multi-billion dollar corporation, such as the NFL as an example. But the revenue on the sales for tickets, food, etc, and the jobs it creates, does benefit tax payers.
Teams doesn't benefit most taxpayers. Those businesses don't lower prices for their customers. A lot of businesses have left downtown Greenville due to rising lease rates.

Benefit can mean more than money. The SRT is a benefit to all that use it, supposedly paid by just the hospitality tax. That and the upgraded Falls Park area, revitalized the downtown area. The revitalized downtown area has drawn new businesses and corporations to the area which in turn has brought more residents and improvements to the area. Everyone benefits.
If a stadium can be built without relying on tax payer subsidies, then brings in more activities for the local area to enjoy, that is a benefit.
The downtown took off after corporations located here and the population increase. Most corporations don't make business decisions based on a downtown area.
Soccer fans do tailgate. They show up early. They party and they are loud. It’s a wild atmosphere. This project will be completed. Too many people want it to happen. Forget Greenville County. Those politicians don’t want any progress or don’t care about quality of life.

I agree. That location is good for me. Easy to get to.
Soccer isn't a popular spectator sport in this country.
I don't follow the economic or quality of life argument for a tax funded stadium.
