Never mind that soccer is the fourth most popular sport in the U.S., having overtaken hockey in that spot.

A female beachball team would draw more people.

They average less than 1000 people.

Tailgating will be hard to do unless there is a large green space next to the stadium. You'll have to tailgate on a parking garage.

I've got mixed feelings on this. Not a huge fan of the finance committee killing this proposal in a committee meeting behind closed doors. But with that being said I think the county funding this would be pretty risky move. The USL1 is a very young league (this year is the 4th season) that has already lost some teams to another league started and funded by the MLS. Are the Greenville Triumph really going to be around here for a long time? Upstart sport leagues don't have a long track record of success in this country especially at the lower levels. What happens if the club folds for whatever reason? Some proposals are saying this this venue would host 150 events a year, but the triumph only play 15 regular season home games a year and if a women's team starts up that is another 15 games throw in some playoff games and your are still only at like 40 events. What the heck are all these other events? I don't think the well hosts that many in a year and its far more of a multipurpose venue than this would be. I hope the Triumph are here for a long time and are able to get a nice venue to play at. I just don't think the tax payers should be on the hook for it.

Have you been to a Triumph game? They're packed.

Try more than double that figure, in a year in which COVID rules were still in effect. https://soccerstadiumdigest.com/2021...ne-attendance/

It certainly feels more natural to have a baseball stadium located near the city center.
It seems like most of the big cities have their pro baseball and football stadiums outside of the downtown.

If that is objectively a huge crowd, why can't the team fund their own stadium?

How do you square that attendance with your assertion the team will generate millions of tax funds?

This is no big deal to me. The city will spend money on something that isn't a necessity one way or another. They paid that artist a lot of money to rent his statues for a few months. We paid him to advertise his art to private buyers.

I'd prefer tax revenue generated from tourism be used to help the homeless. I get approached by homeless people on a regular basis downtown. One night, I bought a homeless person a sub at Jimmy Johns and before I got back to Main Street, another homeless person asked me for help so I took him to Jimmy Johns. A third one asked me for money over near Falls Park.

Taxpayer money still went into the project, and continues to go into it. https://www.scpictureproject.org/gre...uor-field.html

Not for the original stadium itself.
