Have you ever known someone to get pregnant after Tubal Ligation Surgery ?
I don't mean reversal surgery.
I mean naturally got pregnant after years of a tubal ligation ? Like maybe the tubes healed ?
There was an article a few years back in one of the national women's magazines about a family who had two kids. The woman had a tubal ligation, and got pregnant a couple of years later. After baby 3 was born, her husband got a vasectomy. NUMBER 4 came along a couple of years after that.
I had my tubes tied 11 months ago and all I can say is you guys scaring the crap out of me. My OB would not guarantee the procedure 100% but at the same time he told me I don't need to use a back up method of contraception. I had mine cut and burned so how in the heck could they uncauterize themselves and reconnect????
I had my tibes tied back in 1997. I told the Dr. I wanted my tubes, snipped, clipped and burned. Everytime I go in for my annual appointment I ask them what my chances are of them mysteriously growing back together. Its 99% effective so I'm good with those odds. I did know a woman that had the older method where the tubes were just tied. She was rushed to the hopsital and almost died because she had an etopic pregnancy and that can be fatal. She did lose the child but she was saved.
Since my tubal my cramping has increased during my cycle so I am now on a low-dose BC pill. I feel so crazy taking the pill AND knowing I had a tubal.

There are other methods mentioned on this site, but they are pretty uncommon.
Tubal reversal is an option, but many fertility specialists will recommend IVF instead.
IVF would probably the only option for pregnancy after Essure or Adiana procedures.
Edited to add: the tubal probably had nothing to do with the cramps. If you used the BCPs before the tubal, they probably blocked any cramps you would have had in a natural, ovulatory cycle. The cramps are just your natural cycle re-establishing itself.
LOL I am glad I am not the only one who thinks doubling up on the sterilization would be a great idea.

If it was done right after delivery or at the time of Cesarean, most likely the procedure was done by the Pomeroy method: a "knuckle" of tube is formed by grasping the tube with a clamp, the tube is kinked much like you would a garden hose when you want to move a lawn sprinkler, a couple of sutures are tied around the kinked portion of the tube, and about one inch of the tube is removed The suture chosen is one that dissolves quickly, allowing the cut ends of the tube to separate. The result is a gap in the tube at its midportion.
The other common method was done with the laparaoscope. A telescope is inserted through the navel, the tube is picked up with a long forceps inserted through the scope, and the tube cauterized, or burned with an electric current. This effectively melts the protein in the tube and seals it.
The ring and clips were available, but much less commonly used.
If you haven't gotten pregnant in 20 years, the risk is small. If you are curious enough, you should be able to get your records from your doctor or the facility where the procedure was done.
Essure and Adiana are gaining popularity because the insertion is an outpatient (in the doctor's office) procedure that only takes about 35 minutes.

I am so glad that you pointed this out, I heard so many horror stories from women telling me not to have my tubes tied, that my periods would be horrible, cramps, headaches which freaked me out (obviously not enough to not have the tubal done) So many doctors do not tell women that if they have been on birth control pills there will more than likely be a change in your cycles. So this was great information

I got my procedure done when I was 25 and now I am 38. As long as they stay stapled, burned, clipped or whatever they did--I'm happy.
As far as the cramps go. I had severe cramps from time to time before I started on the pill. Then I got pregnant did go back to the pill then Depro and another pregnancy after the shot wore off. I can only remember that my cramps have been crappy since the tubal. So if my cycle isn't re established after 13 years then I got some plumming issues.
There was a pic of the smiling family and both the mother and father said they believe they were just meant to have those last two children. If I recall correctly, they weren't young parents, either. I think she was in her late thirties/early forties when the last two were born.

Did you ever have any regrets getting it done so young? I had a friend that was that age and her doctor wouldn't consider doing a tubal on her at that age. With the pill at least you know when your period will come and if you needed to you could actually skip one.
