Researching West Broad Village in suburban Richmond, Virginia might be worth it. I'd like to see something similar in the Syracuse area.
Township 5 in Camillus and the Town Center in Fayetteville actually kind of fulfills this type of shopping/development, but would have to increase options and adjust the built environment.

Also, the plan for the Great Northern Mall site is for a lifestyle center. So, that may be similar.

Lastly, Cornell is the land grant university for the state and has some SUNY academic programs. So, they already fulfill what you are referring to.

Keys to attracting new jobs

Syracuse area needs more shovel ready sites like this one in Mississippi

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=o-Lfi2Rt8w0

I quote...
- Land ready to be approved (local zoning, etc) quickly by local government, in large acreage in the right locations
- Transportation in place (water, rail, highways, airport) for distributing manufactured products at a low cost
- Energy/ power readily available and directly accessible for a given site
- Water for the plant
- Low cost of land and workers, although these days manufacturing is heavily robotic and the jobs tend to require higher skills

- One-stop shopping for helping a business rapidly overcome all regulations (federal, state, local) and deal with these regulatory bodies through one efficient local shop with expertise in all these regulations and connections to regulatory bodies
- Support from the community for training workers in skill sets specific to a given industry, both for potential workers who are applying for jobs and existing workers already with the company
- The economic development team remaining engaged with businesses at all times to help overcome barriers asap, whether through navigating government regulations, addressing infrastucture needs (roads, water, power, rail, etc) or quickly adapting training resources at local community colleges to prepare the work force for a given industry

From what I understand, overcoming government regulations and having workers trained in the specific skills needed by a particular industry are major factors.

If I was a billionaire I'd build a few hundred orgone cloud busters and scatter them around the Syracuse NY area. On overcast days with no rain I'd turn them on ...thereby creating a dissolution of all the clouds in the sky.

Syracuse could then go from cloudy weather in winter to one of the sunniest cities in the north of the US.

The technology to control weather has been a reality for at least 50 years, it's just been hidden. I'm guessing probably those that know how to control it want to remain in power of that knowledge and not have this technology get into the hands of the public where it could be misused.

But if this technology is ever used in the south or west to create rain, there is no reason the northeast can't use the cloud buster to dissolve cloud cover or unwanted lake effect snow.

^It is probably already out there, as there is technology to cause rain out there.

With that said, winters in recent years have become more mild. Snow comes in bursts, then melts gradually over a few days. This can occur multiple times during the winter. This addresses the average snowfall thread as well.

Improve the design of new buildings in Syracuse.

I recently had a chance to study the new buildings constructed in Syracuse during the past decade. I love the look of the inner harbor apartments, I like the two hotels, I love the new red brick building in armory square. I like the SU veterans building.

I think most of the new student housing designs don't create the best energy for the neighborhood. The energy is only slightly better due their presence in the neighborhood north of SU.

As the density is built out, I'd love to see new apartments or student housing with the following designs and energy.

Like the skyline thread, these look pretty much the same. To be fair to the buildings being built around SU, they vary in terms of look: https://maps.app.goo.gl/2tPxhNvwTWfe1iFEA?g_st=ic

https://maps.app.goo.gl/LLPJ8CfEYcYfGE2z6?g_st=ic

These are just residential buildings and do not include campus buildings from SU or ESF.

This is a recently revamped residential building in Downtown: https://maps.app.goo.gl/Ejfe5dFA6oENShZW7?g_st=ic

So, it is nice to see some variety among the newer or recently revitalized buildings.

I do like the Comstock Ave and especially the Brighton Ave student housing buildings. The others not so much.

Are you referring to the one on East Colvin essentially on South Campus or the one at the corner with East Genesee Street?

To be honest, many of the other buildings don't look too dissimilar from the those in the Google Earth shots, but actually have some more architectural variety.
