Two bonded, beautiful Shelties were dropped off at a Virginia shelter by somebody who found them near a Walmart. So far nobody has claimed them. I wonder what kind of human story might be behind this. Desperation? Illness? Criminal activity? Just carelessness? Hmmm...

They're not available for adoption while the shelter is trying to locate the owners. Poor babies. But if they can't go home, I'm sure somebody will give them a wonderful new home.

If you know of an update, please share it with us. It's a weird story. Apparently they're not microchipped. My hunch is that they're from another state, and got dropped/left behind.

Aw, poor guys.

I know that right now, people are getting desperate even with fancy purebreds like this. So many "pandemic puppies" finding themselves unwanted, and the rescues/shelters (in the US at least) are so full they're not taking owner surrenders. I got both of my purebred red huskies from rescues, and one of them was found stray in a remote area. Probably dumped.

If that's not the case, perhaps they were stolen then dumped? This is why microchipping (and keeping them updated) is SO important. I cannot understand why all dogs & cats aren't microchipped these days, when it's such an easy and relatively inexpensive procedure. Dumb.

They do not seem like they were dumped. I say this because dogs who have been abandoned have a look in their eyes and on their face. These two look like they are having the time of their lives, which makes me think that they got out. And dogs can wander far from home.

There are lots of scenarios other than abandonment that could explain why these two were found. For all we know, there is someone frantically looking for them on the other side of the state. Or, they escaped from a breeder who has so many dogs that they either don’t know that they are missing or don’t care.

^I agree that they don't look abandoned.

They look well cared for. Healthy weight and coat. No matted fur balls under their ears. Bright eyed, not timid.

They are beautiful dogs. Hopefully their owner is o.k.

Here is an update:

Quote:

**January 10, 2024 Update**

Colonial Heights Animal Services would like to express our appreciation for all of the networking that has taken place to search for the possible owner or family for these two canines.

As we continued this investigation, we appreciate those that have come forward with potential leads and additional information. At this time, we have potentially identified those responsible for them. We are making every attempt to make contact and speak with them directly.

Again, we appreciate those that have networked and gone above and beyond in sharing. We will continue to provide updates accordingly and as quickly as we have them. These canines are not currently available and we greatly appreciate your patience in this case.

We strongly encourage you to share any of our other cases or please consider networking one of our available animals here or any that are currently with another shelter or rescue organization.

Thank You!
Colonial Heights Animal Services

Smile Sheltie Lover here

Who would get rid of these lovely dogs?

My favorite breed and I love dogs of all kinds.

My husband and I would love these too but I agree they look well cared for and I will follow this case.

Poor babies.
