Description: As the city’s oldest restaurant, there simply isn’t another place in town so imbued with history, romance, and gentility. If those accolades sound dated, so be it. The deeply carved wood paneling, stained glass, and cushy dark booths certainly worked for Harry S. Truman, who was such a regular customer they named Booth No. 4 in his honor. Perfectly grilled steaks and steamed lobsters are the mainstays here, and dinner might start brilliantly with steamed mussels brought to the table in a big tin bucket. White-jacketed waiters provide service reflective of some of the steepest prices in town. Reservations are suggested for both lunch and dinner. Lunch is available Mon through Sat, dinner seven days a week.

Description: Breathtaking panoramic views of the skyline are on the menu at this revolving restaurant on the 42nd floor of the Hyatt Regency. In fact, with 72 windows and 23 color murals gracing the walls, you’re surrounded by the sights of Kansas City wherever you look. Although the menu offers nothing revolutionary (sorry, we couldn’t resist) the mesquite-grilled steaks are expertly prepared. For dessert go for the Sky High Pie, three layers of homemade ice cream on a graham cracker crust. Or head to the lounge for an after-dinner drink and tell the bartender, “One more trip around the city, please.” Skies is open for lunch and dinner, Tues through Sun. The lounge offers that stunning view until midnight on weekends.

You can choose from dozens of ingredients to mix with your frozen custard, including fruits, nuts, chunks of Snickers and Heath Bar, and flavorings such as maple, rum, and coffee. Make your own recipe or go for a Foo’s favorite, such as Mint Oreo Twist or a Blue Devil, which incorporates raspberries, crème de menthe, and chocolate chips. Divine. And JoCo rejoiced when Foo’s came south with a second location.
