Those times were deceiving though. Fords did a lot of pack laps.

Yep, it about flipped in session 2. Blaney is tops with Logano second. Fords all up at the top.


But.. The bottom is still the bottom. Villeneuve, McLeod, etc.

Correct. Finishing order in each race. So if you finish first in the first dual you start 3rd. If you finish first in the 2nd Dual you start 4th, and so on.

Which is why it's not wholly uncommon to see the front row guys drop back and just ride. They cannot improve their starting position. It's basically a glorified practice session for them.

Of course.. Some drivers (Earnhardt) just want to win and they're not going to fall back no matter what.

It's also a reason that noone has ever swept speedweeks. Hell, no one has ever won the Shootout/Twin/500, much less add winning the pole into that mix.

I could see Larson taking that position. Unless his crew chief overrules him.
