Frugality is about getting the most bang for your buck. You don't need to shop at good will, finding the best deal you can on higher quality clothes is frugality.
Purchased 6 T-shirts and a baselayer pair of pants about a month ago. All on sale, all online. I only wear tall cuts for clothing, and it is so much easier to order from companies that carry stock.
Truly frugal folks probably don't buy many clothes anyway, except maybe at Goodwill.
I disagree. Frugal is buying what you need with possibly some wants, but getting the most value out of the deal.
I love to shop at Goodwill and other thrift stores, but generally don't find any clothes for myself. I buy new clothes every year because styles change and clothes wear out. I have a lifestyle that requires me to show up with fresh clothes once in a while although I 'rewear' most everything at one point or another. I shop end of season sales and get most of what I want. I'll also buy a $200 pair of shoes if I think it looks good and will keep my feet from hurting. I don't do that often, but I've needed looks and comfort for a trip and no time to wait for sales.
I bought a pair of shorts last week, I bought new, but I expect them to last years. I needed a new pair, as I only had 2, so now I have 3 ( I will always have a pair to wear) We are in triple digits, so shorts are a must.
Got 2 pairs of jeans at the local thrift store for $5 each, and some socks at Big Lots. $5 a package with 6 pairs of socks per package.
I don't have to worry about being in style since retiring to my ranch. Cows don't care how stylish you are.
However, barbed wire, thorns and machinery wreak havoc on cloths, so I check the thrift stores when I'm in town because I always need replacements.
Usually only buy denim or Carhart, regular slacks only last a day or so, shorts offer no protection at all. Shirts (have to be longsleeve to protect from the sun) last longer so I can wait more between buying replacement for them.
I got a big box of stuff from REI from their 4th of July sale, most of it 50% off original MSRP. Their house brand is of really good quality, (Spousal Unit is pretty sure that either Darn Tough or Smartwool makes their socks) will last for years, can be dressed up or down, and importantly generally doesn't require ironing.
