Afternoon all! PITTS you were talking about Jimi and one thing about his amazing talent is the fact he was playing a right handed Strat left handed! If you notice in his vids it's upside down. Now that is talent - plus, using the Star Spangled Banner as an example, the way he could create the sounds of the lyrics simply by manipulating his guitar. An amazing artist that we lost too soon.
OH and I agree with Swede about maybe we just post a link only to a song or artist that we're chatting about instead of an imbedded video. That way people who are interested in the tidbit can go over and check it out, but others don't have to JMO and great thread
His guitar was also strung upside down with the pick-ups left in stock configuration. This changed the tone as the pick-ups were reverse for how they were designed and installed for normal players. High notes had a warm dynamic to them and low notes had a brightness to them. This was not normal. This was just part of Jimi's unique tone and sound that was clearly different from others. Tuning down 1/2 step and customizing amplifiers (mostly Marshall) were among many-many others. Where the high E used to ring over that part of the pick-up and coil, was ringing over the low E part and so on...... top edge of neck down (closest to your thumb when folded across) as was another technique employed by Jimi E flat...B flat...G flat...D flat...A flat...E flat respectfully. He also used to play bass riffs with his thumb as the other fingers were playing rhythm and lead and singing all at the same time. He was very multitask equipped, talented and capable. Stevie Ray Vaughan's number #1 Strat has a left handed tremolo that I think helped produce a similar tone. Very similar..... almost in an eerily identical way when he played, especially Jimi's songs. Some tech for ya!

WOW - thought I knew a lot about Jimi but you're really an expert. Oh, and don't know if you saw 'my bad' but I did correct it to where you had posted the rare footage of Jimi. This gal is getting too old to multi-task LOL
And SRV - another hero of mine. Cried for days when he died

I hate to do this but must to show you something. Don't be mad chat thread peeps for the video. Kenny and Stevie were/are both right handed players. You will notice in this video that Kenny has a left hand neck on his right handed guitar. The tone...... well lets just say it is SPOT ON! Don't worry everybody, Kenny is here with us now!

OMG that was literally orgasmic! I'm definitely going to get hold of more of his music. I've always been a Fender fan, but the sound he got out of the left hand neck, then throwing his guitar over his head and ripping - found this great article about him if peeps want to check him out more. What an amazing guitarist. Now I'm going to watch that yummy, great guitarist play again
The chat thread has been unlocked and we are free to chat away. I wish posters would check out JOSH ZUCKERMAN........a new artist who has a style similar to Huey Lewis And The News.

I'll check him out - did like Huey back in the day and hadn't heard of Josh Zuckerman before you posted one of his songs in another thread, but in all honesty I didn't listen to the song. Promise I will now

I wonder if he can blow the harp like Huey? Huey was a awesome harmonica player and I read the reason he became so good. It was when he was waiting on buses while in college and shortly after, trying to earn some cash on the street corner for extras! I'd drop a buck or two into your hat Huey. Very-very underrated and "Workin For A livin" shows it off!
