I love wacky roadside shops. Whenever we drive to Vegas we stop in Baker and go to the Alien Jerky Place, the Country store that sells all sorts of weird soda and other funny crap.

I'm wondering: doesn't the nearby town of Newberry Springs have some man-made oasis lakes in backyards of some residences? They sure take up quite a bit of land, don't they? Yet, on the other hand, they are AMAZING to look at, and to possibly explore (that's IF someone who happens to own one of these lakes behind their residence ACTUALLY invites you in, and is NOT a tweaker, or vandal, or anything like that)!

So, why not place some more of these man-made lakes in Baker and in nearby Daggett, Yermo, or even Lenwood? None of them should be placed in Hinkley for obvious reasons (i.e., Erin Brockovich). In addition, add some desert flora for shading, windbreak, and/or addition to landscape, such as palm trees, cacti, aloe vera, palo verdes, athel tamarisks, desert ironwood, smoketrees, verbenas, yucca, and/or even Joshua trees.

In Newberry Springs, some of the man-made lakes even have "islands" set in the middle of the water, with some species of desert flora present. How awesome and beautiful is THAT?!

Would you consider this a great idea, or no?...

Brandon, there used to be at least 3 manmade lakes around Newberry Springs that were open to the public...Lake Loreen, Lake Dolores, & Lake Tami are the ones I remember. They were how we desert people got relief in the summer.

Lake Dolores was turned into a water park, & it was really popular for awhile, but it's abandoned now. People like making videos of all the devastation & vandalism.

I don't know about the other lakes, CrazyMan probably knows more. Lake Tami was my favorite, my HS boyfriend & I spent a lot of time there...happy memories that I've been thinking of a lot lately, because he died recently.

I think there are still some private lakes there, on resident's property.

As for doing this in Baker...lakes need water, remember?
