I have a very vague memory of going there as a little kid and getting something from the treasure chest. I couldn't have been more than 5!

I was in KC last month for my dad's funeral and went to the 24 Hr. Fitness at 75th and Metcalf. That building brought back memories from when it was Kings, eating onion rings. Then it was Peaches record store when I was a teenager.

I remember--I think--waiting in line, so perhaps it was a cafeteria? We lived in Waldo, if that helps.

Thanks, everyone, in advance!
They also served crab legs and herring.

Somebody in here mentioned some of our Mexican restaurants in Kansas City being about the same. two places you might like that is pretty tasty. But need a car to get to one of them. One is Maybe a block or two Truman Hospital just south of the hospital and the other one is in Raytown called Los Compos off 350 highway next door to a radio shack.

I remember the ads growing up. Never went there. They once used a Henry Mancini song. Part of "Timothy"

I don't think I saw this post before...my condolences on the death of your dad.

My first memory of that building at 75th and Metcalf was when it was Peaches, where we would buy concert tickets in the 70s (and records, and Peaches crates to store them in). I don't remember Kings.

Thank you!

Yes, I love it when it was Peaches Records. That's where I would go to rent movies when we got our first VCR. It was an amazing time

What about Putch's Cafeteria? I remember going there with my grandparents on Sundays after church at Metcalf South. (I'm pretty sure there were other locations) It was always packed with old people, rather dark inside with colored stained glass windows, and someone playing an organ. We also went to The Forum cafeteria in Oak Park Mall (across from the AMC theater on the south side of the mall, I think) back in the 80s. I loved the cafeterias as a kid!

And was there a Mexican restaurant called Don-something in Mission, right off Metcalf? Now I'm remembering all these old places that no longer exist. Now that I'm traveling back to KC every 3 months, I enjoy driving around seeing the old sites. Some things changed, lots of things haven't. It's like going back in time for me.

Might be "Don Chilito's"? I remember the catchy tune for its radio commercials. "Dawn Cha-leeeeeee-toes" I think there was one DT where we would happy hour on occasion, early 80s.

Fond memories of Peaches. It was the one place that carried lots of "new" Oldies 45s. Spent hours combing thru those wooden crates of Oldies, sometimes finding ones specifically looking for, not looking for (or had forgotten) but thrilled to remember them . . .and also coming up empty handed (lots).

Some of those 45s I still have in the archives somewhere.
