Not sure, and you ask a good question. Sometimes you take the best player available when it's your turn to pick, and they can be used for later trades.
I suppose. They can always keep one and use the other in trade to fill holes on the team. Bart is looking like a keeper, but we don't know anything about Bailey yet. I still suspect that Buster Posey may not return after this virus year. I've never gotten the impression he loves playing baseball or thinks of it as a suitable career. He's earned over 100 million so far, so it isn't as though he needs to continue to play for the money.
The good news is that Kapler has them playing quite well lately, winning their last seven straight, including a very exciting 11 inning win over the Dodgers last night, the team's best game of the year to date. The Giants are now just one game below .500 after a dreadful start. I would note that the Phillies, who decided that they didn't need a Kapler type, are 11-15.
For years I've wanted to move Posey out from behind the plate and over to 1st base. I'm not a huge fan of Belt (although he did great last night; and he's done well for us for many years). I'd rather see Posey save his legs over at 1st.
Yes they are playing much better lately. It'd be great to see a sweep of Dem Bums.

Posey's contract calls for 22 million in 2021, and another 22 million in 2022, unless the Giants exercise a 3 million dollar buyout of the option. I do not think Posey hits well enough any longer to be a firstbaseman and the smart thing for the club to do is to buy out the 2022 option and use the 19 million that they save to invest in other talent.
Posey had tremendous peak value, but his decline has been rapid the last two years and he isn't likely to be better as a 34 year old in 2021. The old Giants front office would hold onto him for the two full years and maybe signed him to some extension as well. If the new regime is as metric minded as they appear, they will know that Posey's value has evaporated.
I'll make a long range prediction that offense from catchers will be on the rise when they get around to calling balls and strikes with electronics rather than umps. Once that begins, the currently highly prized skill of pitch framing, will drop to no value at all. The machine isn't going to care how the catcher caught the ball, only whether or not it passed through the strike zone. The guys who are in the show now because of their pitch framing skills, are going to need to start hitting to keep their jobs.
The Giants are leading the Padres 2-0 in the bottom of the 5th.
The Dodgers are losing to the Brewers 5-1 in the bottom of the 4th.
If those results hold up…………The Giants will be the 2021 NL West Champs .
(They’d have a three game lead with two left to play}
10/2
Dodgers came back from behind for the win. Giants lost to the Padres 3-2 today and the Dodgers are beating the Brewers 7-1 in the 6th. Don’t count the Dodgers out yet!
