Yeah, hope that Ukraine thing doesn't spill over the borders. Losing their wheat production is already having an impact, although that new agreement was reached to feed Africa, or it could have already been nasty.

The war is probably going to have an impact for several years with the loss of life, mines in the fields that have to be removed, unexploded ordinance, loss of machinery, depending on how long this goes on, it could get really bad before it gets better again.

I see the prices on wheat berries is down about $5 for 50lbs (delivered). I buy them maybe 2-3x a year for bread/biscuits and long term storage.

According to the futures index, wheat is higher than it has been for a long time at $8.55 per bushel

Everything is higher.

Corn up >100% in last 2 yrs https://www.barchart.com/futures/quo...eractive-chart

Beans up 100% in last 2 yrs https://www.barchart.com/futures/quo...eractive-chart

Oats had been up >100% https://www.barchart.com/futures/quo...eractive-chart

Cattle https://www.barchart.com/futures/quo...eractive-chart came down because ranchers sold out due to high price of feed. Now they're scarce and price is back up 50%

Hogs are up 100% in past 2 yrs. https://www.barchart.com/futures/quo...eractive-chart

..and it all started with excessive US Govt spending, govt regulatory restrictions on the fuel supply and money supply meddling, LONG before Mr. Putin's war started.

The Ukraine supplied only ~7% of the world's wheat. Most of it went to N. Africa where bread makes up a much larger portion of the daily diet than most countries. Egyptians eat each eat >1 lb of bread a day (!). ...The war has had a minimal effect on price of wheat world-wide, and has affected the actual food supply only in N.Africa https://english.ahram.org.eg/NewsCon...rams,-rev.aspx

I agree with you, excessive gov spending was big, and govt regulatory restrictions on fuel supply are even bigger. Money supply meddling gave us some inflation, as well, and further meddling by the fed will not cure that, but will add recession to our problems.

But have to point out that more is at stake than Ukrainian Wheat.

There is also oil, coal, fertilizer, etc.

And Russia restricting the supply of gas to Europe.

It's like SHTF is just raining down on us.

Good time to be a US farmer. Incredible Gov’t spending in that sector for bailouts and a robust commodity market = phenomenal returns.

If they had inputs purchased prior to run up prices.

Yup not a bad time at all. I see a lot of new equipment sales in Montana this year.

Not enough attention is being paid the strangle hold China has on us in terms of our source of medicines and electronic parts & devices....Ii they cut off our meds, a whole generation of old farts will die, and of they cut off our electronics, two generations of younger people will go into psychological meltdown and become useless...Oh, wait. They're pretty much useless as it is anyways. Nobody produces anything anymore except "service."

Not as good as you think. Often, the farmer gets paid the same, and the processors and other middlemen get a significantly bigger cut. Often it is because the middleman's expenses are much higher too. Just as an easy visual, it costs a lot more to transport food to market, when energy costs rise.
